Mrs. Massey – Fruit-filled cookies

(This is a real old recipe)

 

1 cup of shortening (Crisco)

2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed

2 eggs

3 ½ cups of all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon of baking soda

½ cut of sour milk

1 teaspoon of vanilla

¾ cup of candied cherries

¾ cup of white raisins

¾ cups of nuts (black walnuts) (use your own nuts or leave them out)

 

Put fruit and nuts on sheet of waxed paper then sprinkle ½ cup of flour (from above) and make sure fruit and nuts are covered with flour

 

Cream shortening and sugar in a mixing bowl

 

Add eggs and mix well 

 

Combine flour and baking powder in a bowl

 

Add flour mixture to cream (by hand) a little at a time, a little milk, and so forth until all of the milk and flour are mixed in.

 

Add vanilla and mix well

 

Add fruit and nut mixture and mix well again.

 

Dropped by teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheets (1 ½ to 2 inches apart) and bake 350 degrees for 10 minutes (or until done)
